Under the Bush administration, the pivotal decision of Roe v. Wade has been targeted and chipped away at, putting choice in danger. In April of 2007, the Supreme Court upheld a prior ruling completely banning certain types of late-term abortion. This decision was especially notable because it made no exemption for cases where a woman's life and health are at risk. In this precedent-setting case, the Supreme Court ignored science and overrode medical knowledge in favor of right-wing ideology. Bush's two Supreme Court appointees were necessary in achieving this ruling.

Women on Medicaid and those serving in the military face extra restrictions in their right to choose, but in a fair and equal society, every woman should have the same rights.

The Bush administration has exerted its right-wing ideology on a number of related issues, including its opposition to sales of over-the-counter contraception, promotion of abstinence-only sex education, and blocking funds to international aid organizations that provide abortions, along with other contraceptive support or education. We now need a strong congressional voice for choice.
