Information: In 2006, when Dan Seals ran for Congress it was the first time he had ever run for office. He was an unknown at the beginning of the campaign, but his local supporters built a strong grassroots organization with thousands of volunteers and raised almost $2 million—all with little help from the national party. However, he did receive support from national figures such as Senators Barack Obama and Dick Durbin, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and former Tenth District Congressman, and DAPAC supporter Abner Mikva. Dan shocked the pundits and incumbent Mark Kirk by winning 47 percent in the election. Dan is vying for the seat again in 2008, and this time with even more support—he won the 2008 Democratic primary election with over 80% of the vote in an tough race against another well-funded progressive candidate. Seals is a truly progressive candidate, supporting all of the issues we at DAPAC champion. Dan was the youngest of three boys, and was raised in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. He grew up attending public schools and JCC camp. Dan's mother, a social worker of almost thirty years raised Dan to believe in strong progressive values. Dan credits her with teaching him the value of working hard to make a better life for others. Dan served as an Aide to the Assistant Secretary of Commerce and as an Economics Fellow in the U.S. Senate. In this capacity, Dan tracked exports of U.S. technology to foreign markets at the Department of Commerce, and worked on tax, budget, economic development and international trade issues in the Senate. Currently, Dan is a business consultant and adjunct professor at Northwestern University. Please help support Dan Seals in his campaign by sending a donation made payable to “Dan Seals for Congress” to us at DAPAC where we can forward it along to him.
