Information: Jim Himes will be facing a vulnerable Republican incumbent in Connecticut's fourth Congressional district, and needs your help to push him over the edge. His opponent, Chris Shays, is the only Republican House member left in New England. Shays has recently voiced his disapproval of the Republican party, and has threatened to resign if significant changes are not made. This district has been trending progressively Democratic with each election, and this cycle it should flip back. Himes is a truly progressive candidate, supporting all of the issues we at DAPAC champion, such as being 100% pro-choice, supporting same-sex marriage, taking immediate steps to end the war in Iraq, and supporting publicly funded universal healthcare. He has pledged to vote for these issues, and more, once in Congress. DAPAC is proud to add him as a newly endorsed candidate. Jim was born in Lima, Peru in 1966. He spent the first ten years of his life in Peru and Colombia and subsequently moved to the US. Jim graduated from public school and was admitted to Harvard College in 1984. At Harvard, Jim worked closely with Pulitzer-prize winning author Dr. Robert Coles on his book The Spiritual Life of Children. Upon graduating, Jim was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to attend Oxford University where he continued his studies of Latin America and wrote his dissertation on El Salvador. In 1990 Jim's interest in business led him to a job at Goldman, Sachs & Co., as a banker in Latin America and New York, and was later promoted to Vice President. A desire to explore business-oriented solutions to urban poverty led Jim to the Enterprise Foundation in 2003 where he worked on providing financial services to people with low-incomes. In 2004, Jim was promoted to head Enterprise's New York operations, which has resulted in the construction of thousands of affordable housing units in the New York region each year. In 2007, Jim was made a Vice President of Enterprise. Jim's interest in economic development issues led to his appointment as a Commissioner of the Greenwich Housing Authority in 2002. He was chairman of the board from 2004-2006. He is currently a board member of the Fairfield County Community Foundation and an elected member of the Greenwich Board of Estimate and Taxation. On both boards, he is focused on working towards excellence in education. He also serves as Chairman of the Greenwich Democratic Town Committee.
