Elected in 2006, John has founded, run and written editorials for several successful Kentucky publications and is the founder and president of The Center for Kentucky Progress, a progressive think tank focusing on local issues. In Congress, he has advocated for the government to immediately begin to withdraw troops from Iraq. He has also focused on health care, working to provide affordable, quality coverage to all, and he opposes the Republican Medicare Part D plan, which he sees as a gift to pharmaceutical companies. John also opposes Bush's No Child Left Behind program, as it aims to provide funding for private and parochial schools; John knows that the true focus should be on public education. In his first few months in office Yarmuth has participated in several Congressional hearings and sponsored several education bills helping college students afford higher education. |
